Intuitive eating in adulthood is a lie

Okay! Maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But think about it- intuition seems like you would just know what your needs are and only eat exactly what your body needs to feel it’s best at all times. We ALL fall short of this.

And well….. why would we want to ONLY eat what we need?! Food is fuel but it is also a huge part of our society. We mourn with food, we celebrate with food and we CAN enjoy food while reaching goals.

Looking to try to eat more intuitively but it kind of overwhelms you? Here’s 3 helpful tips I love sharing with clients:

  1. Start your meals with fiber & protein then add your “extras”
  2. Aim for 3 meals a day that fill you up and a snack or two that you can enjoy
  3. Watch out for “empty calories”. A few examples are alcoholic beverages, highly sugary or processed treats. I’m NOT saying don’t have these- just proceed with caution. This is where food pairing can become a HUGE help!
    • Food pairing is when you include something with little to no nutritional value in with other foods that have very high nutritional value so you’re not only enjoying the specific treat you want, but also filling yourself up so you’re less likely to binge on more empty calories later.
