Exercise & Alzheimers

Alzheimer’s Disease sadly affects over 5 million people in the United States. That’s not even including their loved ones whom are also affected. Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging and nobody really knows exactly what causes it but evidence is emerging that healthy behaviors like regular exercise programs can help to lower the risks.

Exercising 3 or more times a week for 30 to 60 minutes may:

  • Improve memory, reasoning, judgment and thinking skills (cognitive function) for people with mild Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment
  • Delay the start of Alzheimer’s for people at risk of developing the disease or slow the progress of the disease

Top 7 things for healthy active aging:

  • Regular exercise
  • Social engagement
  • Healthy diet
  • Mental stimulation
  • Quality sleep
  • Stress management
  • Vascular health

FIVE out of seven of these things can be achieved by attending a group fitness class designed for aging adults!  I highly recommend looking into FREE exercise classes to older adults in your local areas.
