This is my story into fitness and nutrition.
In January 2014, I was at an all time low with self esteem, but an all time high with blood pressure, cholesterol and I had a body fat percentage of right around 40.
That means almost half of my body was fat and more than likely causing the majority of my health concerns…
A little back story- my mom was into fitness my entire life but I took it for granted and decided exercise and dieting were only for when I needed to drop some weight for something coming up. My mom was currently working out regularly at a jazzercise studio & gifted me a month free pass to try in January 2014.
Little did I know that the community of live group exercise classes would change my entire life and give me the encouragement to further knowledge myself in fitness & nutrition enough to be coaching & teaching others as a profession.
Today, I am certified in personal training, nutrition and group exercise.
I have lowered my cholesterol and blood pressure only by lowering my body fat to be within a healthy range. I did that with nutrition and exercise and I currently do not need to take any medication for it.
Genetics are a factor for me and I might need medicine later in life – Let me be clear, I’m never saying taking a medication is a bad thing. But for now, I’ve delayed the need for it.
I still suffer from anxiety but it isn’t crippling like it was. The friends I’ve made along this journey are priceless & encouraging to say the least.
I have learned a lot through this process and I feel like I’m constantly still learning.
I got down to an all time low scale weight in 2020 but learned more over the next couple years about adequate protein and strength training.
If I can give any general advice it would be this:
Don’t overcomplicate it. Just move your body in a way that you don’t hate, include lean protein at every meal along with fruit or veggie and include things you like in moderation.
