In Defense of Dessert: Why Balance Beats Restriction

There’s a delicate balance between fearing dessert and overindulging in it—and the truth is, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Let me say this clearly: when you eliminate entire food groups or label certain foods as “off-limits,” it often sets the stage for a cycle of temptation, guilt, and ultimately, giving up altogether. Maybe not today, maybe not this month, but restriction tends to catch up with us.

Does that mean you should eat cake every day? Maybe, maybe not. You can include it regularly and still move forward with your health goals. The key lies in the space between extremes.

This is where nuance matters: every body is different, and no food choice makes you a “good” or “bad” person. You are a whole, evolving human being—and what works for you right now might look different than what works for someone else. That doesn’t make your journey any less valid.
